Most books on the Pre-Raphaelites only touch briefly on the women artists. This book looks at these women, the barriers that made it difficult for them to paint and the tragic lives that some of them had. no Pre-Raphaelite collection is complete without this book.

I am an avid fan of Pre-Raphaelite painting, and was very pleased to find this book. It is very thorough and wonderfully done. It contains more than 230 lush illustrations, many in color. Featured are 20 artists, some of whom I wasn't familiar with before. Very nice!

This is a superb book. I couldn't put it down. Extremely well written and a must have for anyone interested in football from the fans point of view.

I can't recommend this book stronger. For Manchester United fans it's the opportunity to follow a year with the side from the untainted by the PLC view of the supporter. For Reds abroad, it serves as the perfect reminder of home. For non-United or those not football supporters it's a chance to understand what we go through. Well written and personal, Paul and Linda have created a book you'll want to dip into time and time again.

Since Sir Sidney Hamburger passed away in July 2001, Bill Williams' work will become the definitive biography of the man the Anglo-Jewish community called "Mr Manchester." This book gives the story of the homeless in their own words. It touched me deeply and personally. This book was designed (the cover and other insert art) by students at Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH... as I am one of these students who helped with the project. I think for anyone who wants to see the reality of being homeless, this book is an excellent resource.

As a formerly homeless citizen I've read many anthologies written by my brothers and sisters who are still on the streets.

This was by far the best!

Not only will you improve your word search skills, but you may learn something about the puzzles topics in the process. US Cities that begin with "Z," Counting in Hebrew, and a Creole Crab Meat Casserole Recipe are just a few of the puzzle topics. This book has provided so many hours of fun, that I am now purchasing the first edition from the same author. ENJOY!

Well-written and intelligible book on the archaeology of disease.
Good discussions both of manifestations of disease in individual
skeletal remains, and in populations. Mostly oriented towards
disease per se, but there's a good chapter on trauma, as well.
Especially good coverage of dental disease. Oriented towards an
academic, rather than towards a lay, audience, but I found it
very readable nonetheless.

I listen to tapes on my daily commute. This was just the next on the list. It turned out to be an eye opener. This is the story of the Krupp family and dealings between 1587 and 1968. So you see it in so another war book but a struggle in economics.

This entertaining publication traces the history of the worlds biggest soccer club through the sports pages of the worlds newspapers. This in depth study contains newspaper cuttings from each season since 1878, together with photographs, cartoons and illustraion. This excellent title includes information on events such as the 1958 Munich air disaster, and the club's triumph in the European Champions Cup in 1968. Sports fans everywhere will be entertained with this well written tribute to the Red Devils.

Beowulf is the greatest surviving Old English poem; a poem predominantly based upon Nordic-Germanic folklore, heroic legends, historical traditions and biblical sources all united. Laced throughout the entirety of Beowulf one can find many elements of Christianity and Christian philosophy - whether it be superficial metaphor, inter-textuality or allegory - man lives only through the grace of God, all earthly things stem from God, or Mans bearing is to be humble and unselfish. Nevertheless intertwined into these Christian elements there is also a strong sense of heroic pride redolent of pagan influence. Thus, Beowulf presents one with a dichotomous relationship between Christian and pagan values.Beowulf is a mix of two ideals; the heroic warrior of the Pagans and the humble selfless servant of the Christians. It is a poem written in a time when Christianity and Paganism existed simultaneously, where many of the newer moral values of the Christians were consistent with Pagan values. Therefore any assessment of Beowulf must deal with both Pagan and Christian themes. Together, the Christian and the Pagan, form an integral part of the poem, in both the social content of the era and in the digressions. They are all a part of the poem, in which no part can be ignored without compromising the poet's desired effect
